Introduction to Health Literacy

16/12/19

Bedfordshire Hospitals Library and Knowledge Service

COMET Room 1

10:00am - 12:00pm

A lack of health literacy can seriously impact a patient’s ability to participate in their own healthcare, and to engage with self-care techniques. This short course aims to give patient-facing staff an introduction to what health literacy is and how it affects patients’ lives. It is also an opportunity to experience what poor health literacy really feels like and to familiarise yourself with tools and techniques to use in practice.

Increase participants’ knowledge of health literacy and why it is important; Raise awareness of how low health literacy impacts on individuals and services; Practice using tools/techniques to support people with low health literacy; Flag up resources and information available for promoting health literacy.
